String players participate in theory classes, music literature classes, chamber music, jazz bassists (if assigned), orchestra, and master classes.

Enrollment is limited to 12 bassists.

Placement Video Guidelines

  • Perform one or more pieces or excerpts that demonstrate technique and expression.
  • Include one example each of two-octave major and minor scales.

Time: Do not exceed 2–5 minutes

Basic playing skills needed to have a productive week

  • Good tone production: resonant and full sound, clarity or articulations
  • Solid sense of time and rhythm
  • Intonation awareness: holding the pitch or adjusting when out of tune
