Each bassoonist will attend several master classes during the week. Master classes will focus on the fundamentals of bassoon performance, such as: tone production, tonguing, finger technique, articulation, reed-making, and more.

Enrollment is limited to 6 bassoonists.

Placement Video Guidelines

  • Two contrasting pieces that demonstrate technique and expression.
  • Two or three octave chromatic scale, played twice, slow and fast.
  • Piano accompaniment is optional.

Time: Do not exceed 5 minutes

Suggested playing skills to have a productive week
  • Major scales to three flats/sharps, two octaves if possible.
  • Chromatic scale, two octaves if possible.
  • Sight-read music in time signatures of 2/4, 3/4, 4/4.

Performance activities for SummerFestival bassoonists range from band, orchestra, choir, and chamber music.
