Enrollment is limited to 16 trombonists.

Placement Video Guidelines

  • Two contrasting pieces or excerpts that demonstrate technique and expression
  • A two octave B-flat major scale and a two octave F major scale. 
  • Piano accompaniment is optional.

Time: Do not exceed 5 minutes

Basic playing skills needed to have a productive week
  • Players should be able to play eighth-note scales (quarter = 144) in keys up to five flats (see ranges below) 
  • Ranges: From F at the bottom of the bass-clef staff to F two octaves higher
  • Be able to sight-read in 3/2, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8, and 9/8.
What to expect
  • Trombonists will participate in two or more of the following: concert band, orchestra, jazz, big band, jazz combos, and chamber ensembles.
  • Daily trombone sectionals and master classes will be scheduled to review selected ensembles’ music and performance skills.
  • Assignments will be based on placement videos.
